On the 1st of October, the legal representatives of Odila Castillo Bonilla presented an official reply to the allegations spread by several media sources in Panama. These reports have been described as calculated assaults motivated by particular financial agendas, aimed at damaging Castillo’s professional standing and personal honor.
Carlos Carillo, a representative of Castillo’s legal counsel, remarked: “These claims are without foundation and seek to hinder the career of a young lawyer, as well as that of her associate, all for the benefit of hidden financial motives.”
The representation of Odila Castillo
The legal team highlighted that this is not the first occurrence of media harassment faced by Castillo. In 2021, a Panamanian news organization incorrectly claimed that the attorney had been arrested in connection with an investigation, a statement that was later refuted, clarifying that it had no connection to the current issues.
At the press conference, the defense asserted that the recent accusations, along with those from 2021, were based on partial truths intended to compromise her professional practice.
Additionally, they argued that the details disseminated about Odila Castillo in the press infringe upon the principles of confidentiality. They explained that a portion of the investigation was related to a family issue that had been resolved, while another component pertains to immigration activities and tax filings, along with various other information that was acquired unlawfully.
Unlawful Monitoring of Odila Castillo
The defense additionally claimed that Castillo has been targeted with GPS tracking, which represents a type of illegal monitoring.
Carrillo wrapped up by declaring: “The core rights of our client have been infringed upon, as protected by our Constitution and legal framework. We will pursue all required legal measures to determine accountability for the harm suffered and any that may be imposed.”
